In Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed in Europe (working title) Bitsy, a curious and courageous American chipmunk, determined to visit the other side of the Atlantic Ocean, sneaks inside an overseas moving container and ends up in Berlin, Germany. Because, as Bitsy puts it, "playing in the same field, living in the same barn, and eating the same food, day after day, after day is just so boring."
While abroad, Bitsy embarks on a travel journey filled with whimsical escapades in seven European countries. She befriends the locals, learns foreign phrases, prepares regional dishes, explores famous landmarks, and visits exciting museums. But most importantly, Bitsy has a brilliant time getting into trouble!
The postcards documenting Bitsy’s European tour encourage her family members to finally travel beyond the Connecticut River. (It is Bitsy’s secret wish that young readers will also be brave enough to explore the world.) Because life is just too short not to go on an adventure!
Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed in Europe is a well-written blend of creative writing, humor, and extensive research. All historical and cultural references, works of art, and places of interest are entirely factual.
Families being posted abroad by international companies, the diplomatic corps, the military, and universities, in addition parents and children interested in taking an imaginary trip abroad, will delight in reading the tale of a fun-loving character making her way in a world which is very unfamiliar.
